Bedroom Recording of Room 1019...

...complete with high pitched noise from the cheap laptop mic!

I guess I should explain this song a little bit. I don't want to go into great detail because I'd like to protect myself and others involved. But let's just say it was a night gone horribly wrong.

Poor judgment from both sides.
Poor planning.
Terrible timing.
I should've known better.
"Everything is perfect until you get there."

The rest I'm sure you can figure out on your own. It's pretty straight forward.

Judges' Choice!

I'm happy to say that I was picked as the winner of the "Judges' Choice" for this summer's Songwriter Showdown. "Audience Choice" went to Willy Eklof who put on a great set. I just wanted to say thank you to everyone that came out to support. But most of all, the people at Muse. Muse is a perfect atmosphere for me...and they have great grilled cheese!

Also, I'd like to thank the other people who played. And did a GREAT job. I'm pretty disappointed that I won actually because I like being a part of these Songwriter Showdowns because you get a chance to be exposed to new talent/crowds. There's also none of the hostile feel you sometimes get with Battle of the Bands. Everyone's very talented and very supportive. I'll definitely still attend future showdowns. This is getting long. I just really wanted to say...

Thank You

Dave

Katy Perry vs. Spiral Diary...grudge match.

...so Katy Perry wrote this song about me, apparently. I'm not sure how to feel.
I mean, I may "pms like a bitch" but that doesn't mean she has the right to tell everybody!

Anyway, I thought I'd tell my side of the story with a song called "Boomerang."
Sometimes I can't help being "hot and cold", Katy.

Take some time to compare lyrics...

Spiral Diary - Boomerang

The corner bank's faded LED says it's just past 7:50
Doors should be opening any minute now
I hold my breath just to get it knocked out of my chest
She is in my head and under my skin

Are we creatures of comfort and convenience
Or do these common coincidences have a deeper meaning?

Walking slowly up the block
You're a mirage that I could've sworn was long gone
Turn around
Make an unscheduled stop
Building tension against the clock
My breath is gone again

This feels too right to be so wrong
Wherever we go, the other follows
This feels too wrong to be so right
We take off
We collide
... we fall again
... we boomerang

There is just something about the angles carved in us
We're thrown, we spin, and we return to the same spot we were tossed
I knew that I could not trust myself
But you said, "Dear, please don't flatter yourself"

If this is right I don't wanna be wrong
If this is wrong I don't wanna be right
If this is right I don't wanna be wrong
I don't wanna be right
I don't wanna be wrong all the time

Katy Perry - Hot N Cold

You change your mind
Like a girl changes clothes
Yeah you, PMS
Like a bitch
I would know

And you over think
Always speak
Cryptically

I should know
That you're no good for me

Cause you're hot then you're cold
You're yes then you're no
You're in then you're out
You're up then you're down
You're wrong when it's right
It's black and it's white
We fight, we break up
We kiss, we make up
(you) You don't really want to stay, no
(but you) But you don't really want to go-o
You're hot then you're cold
You're yes then you're no
You're in then you're out
You're up then you're down

We used to be
Just like twins
So in sync
The same energy
Now's a dead battery
Used to laugh bout nothing
Now your plain boring

I should know that
You're not gonna change

Someone call the doctor
Got a case of a love bi-polar
Stuck on a roller coaster
Can't get off this ride

...so what are YOUR thoughts?

Songwriter SHOWDOWN.

You guys should come. I'm playing friday!

Update...

I need to get better about writing on this thing, but I'm not sure what people want to hear about. Song meanings? Recording updates? Show stuff? Anyway, I thought I'd update you guys on what I've been doing.

Last night, I wiped the dust off the Winter EP mixes and started doing some editing. Some songs are still not completed because I'm having a little bit of writer's block. Not enough drama going on lately. And I think songs about being bored are probably boring. I'm also going to start cleaning up some B-sides so they'll sound respectable when I decide to release them after the Winter EP.

Also, I listened through my first album "Wake of Someday" today. It's been awhile. I guess that cd's not as awful as I thought. You guys should try to make it to a show because there are only about 40 copies left and I'm never going to re-press that cd (...unless maybe they're suddenly high in demand, but I don't foresee that happening). If you're too lazy to come to a show, you can still download all the tracks off my myspace. There's a link in the "sounds like" section.

Until next time...

take care

Dave

Best Answer pt. 2

I lost my grip on something precious
It slipped through my bare fist
My indecision might have cost me
The most exquisite riches

My days are joyless
My nights are even worse
My skies are overcast
My room is even darker

One thing is certain now

I can’t let go

Listen closely for the whistle in the distance
Our locomotive is making its way over these mountains
Somewhere along the tracks, I tripped
And fell off

I can’t catch up

I am a vagrant now who begs for ignorance
Please ma’am, won’t you fill this cup with a couple common cents/sense
Trapped in this valley, I won’t get out
So much to say, but I’m not sure how
One thing is certain now

I can’t let go

Take away this knowledge of everything I cherished
Everything I once possessed
But foolishly relinquished
